About the Tournament

CSIR Sports Promotion Board organizes Nayudamma Memorial Cricket Tournament. This is a four days tournamnet conducted biannually on a rotational basis at various CSIR laboratories. In this tournament, CSIR would field its all India level team and invite participation of teams of other S&T ministries/departments e.g. Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY), Department of Science & Technology (DST), India Meteorological Department (IMD), Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Ministry of Human Resource Development etc. Besides, the host laboratory is also given opportunity for fielding its own team and other local teams.

About Dr Nayudamma

Born in a small village in Guntur district in 1922, Yelavarthy Nayudamma did his Bachelor's degree at BHU, Varanasi in Industrial Chemistry and MS and Ph.D. in Leather Technology at Lehigh University, Pennsylvania. He joined CSIR's Central Leather Research Institute, Chennai as Scientist and later attained to the position of Director, CLRI in 1958 and Director General, CSIR in 1971. He also served as Vice Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University. He was recipient of many national and international awards and honours including the Padma Shri. Unfortunately, he died in an air-crash on 23.6.1985. Dr Y Nayudamma Memorial Trust, Tenali confers the Nayudamma Memorial Award to outstanding scientists for delivering memorial lectures.
