Scented Rose
Institute has developed a cost effective technology for rose cultivation and processing. An efficient micropropagation protocol has been developed. A novel technique for protoplast culture (patented) was also developed. Work on molecular characterization of rose hybrids are underway. Further, genetic diversity of wild rose germplasm is being assessed. Efforts are on to standardize protocol for genetic transformation of rose through biolistic and agrobacterium mediated transformation. Extensive work is being conducted in the area of rose breeding for development of new hybrids for improvement of essential oil and recurrent flowering.
