Metabolic engineering for steviosides biosynthesis

 Metabolic engineering requires availability of cDNA of genes involved in the pathway. Efforts were made to clone various genes of the pathway leading to steviosides biosynthesis. Full length cloning of 1-Deoxyxylulose-5-phosphate reductase, Copalyl diphosphate synthase and Kaurene oxidase was achieved (Fig. 6.10).  Further, following genes were cloned DMEK; DEMS, (IDS),IPP-DMAPP synthase and GGDPS.
