Spectral library

The importance and use of reflectance spectra of objects in remote sensing applications have increased manifold with the advent of Hyper-spectral sensors. These are more efficient in discriminating soil, minerals and vegetation types. A spectral library of the desired resources is a pre-requisite for above studies. Exhaustive libraries are available only for minerals and soils. In vegetation, it is primarily restricted to agriculture crops. Therefore, in a new activity, IHBT(CSIR) and Space Applications Centre, ISRO, Ahmedabad have come together for developing a spectral library of plants of the western Himalayan region. Presently, spectral responses from 39 plants have been recorded using HandHeld Field Spec Spectroradiometer

Spectral response a) Pinus roxburghii and b) Cedrus deodara
