LARGE CARDAMOM
Planting material of large cardamom was obtained in June 2003, from Spices Board, Sikkim.
The comparative performance of 4 cvs Sawney, Varlangey, Zjongu Golsey and Seremana in nursery maintained at the Institute is shown in Table

Two cvs of large cardamom (Amomum subulatum) viz., Varlangey and Sawney were planted in July 2003. The data on growth performance showed that cv Varlangey had wider basal area (girth) and taller plants with more number of spikes than cv Sawney (Fig. 5.17).


In both, new bud development occurred during November 2004 to April 2005 and flower initiation in February 2005, which bloomed in May, 2005 (Fig. 5.16). The fruit setting was also observed (Fig. 5.18).
