| Application/Varieties/Use |
The food industry uses dried sages to flavour meats, sausages and poultry stuffing. Clary sage oil is used in perfumes, as deodorant, insecticidal treatments for thrush and gingivitis, and as a calmative. |

| Soil & Climate |
Average maximum and minimum temperature between 25 oC- 30oC, relative humidity ranging from 60-70 %. No rain or scanty rain as rainy weather reduces oil content. Prefers slightly acidic clay loam soil having pH 5.0-6.5. |

| Propagation |
Through stem cuttings as well as through direct seeding in October (4-5 kg/ha). Nursery raised plants of 4-5 leaves are transplanted. Rooted cuttings of 4- 5 weeks old are transplanted in the field at spacing of 60 cm x 30 cm. |

| Agripractices |
Frequent irrigation after transplanting and then at weekly interval. 40- 50 ton/ha FYM, 80 kg P2O5 and 60 kg K2O as basal dose. 90 kg N/ha in three split doses in 1st year. One pre- sowing irrigation and 15 days after seed germination is essentially required. Harvested in the month of August- September in Himalayas. Should be harvested when the seeds in main nodes of the central inflorescence turn brown. Economic life: 2-4 yr. |
